OUR JOURNEY
Dr Willem Oets creates the first electronic NAPPI price file for his dispensary. An interface is written and Medprax is born.
Medprax appoints their first employee as PMA’s integrate with Medprax.
MediSwitch launches the first electronic claim submission platform. Medprax is approached to create a Medical Scheme Database.
Medikredit, Medscheme, Mediscor and Medprax agree to standardize data and ensure accuracy across the claim adjudication process.
Healthbridge integrates with the Medprax data solution process.
New legislation dictates the mark-ups on Dispensed Medicines and Materials. The Medprax integrated solution provides for Scheme specific mark-ups.
The final NHRPL is released and Medical Schemes publish in-house tariff rates specific mark-ups.
As the calculation of in-house scheme tariff rates is further complicated by new scheme rules and network agreements, Medprax delivers an expertly crafted solution.
The Medprax API transforms the pro forma standard of distributing healthcare data as Medprax moves their solutions to the cloud.
Medprax engages with partners to provide enhanced solutions like Drug to Drug interaction checkers and electronic Package Insert information.
Version 2 of the API is born as Medprax sees a migration of practices to their cloud based solution.
THE TEAM
Dr Willem Oets (Founder)
Willem, a General Practitioner in Amanzimtoti, founded Medprax in 1988, by creating an electronic Medicine and Materials Price file which he initially used in his own dispensary to simplify the complicated process of manually updating Nappi codes data to incorporate the relevant medical scheme rules, regulations and pricing for the dispensing of medication. Willem’s electronic data solution, which was welcomed and implemented by all leading Practice Management Systems in South Africa, evolved over the years into a comprehensive Medicine and Materials database which saw the addition of a Medical Scheme master in 1991. Through Willem’s innovation, the tasks of numerous healthcare businesses and funders have been streamlined and under his leadership Medprax flourished to become a trusted name in the healthcare industry.
Dr Niel Oets (CEO)
Niel, who graduated as a medical doctor from Stellenbosch in 2002, started his career as a General Practitioner in the private healthcare sector in 2005. Since 2010, Niel has headed up the Medprax business using the experience he gains from his practice together with his expertise in medicine coding. Coupled with his business acumen and leadership style, Niel has been instrumental in steering Medprax’s growth and ongoing success by guaranteeing the delivery of high quality services. At the same time Niel ensures that Medprax remains at the forefront of innovation and excellence in healthcare data management. Niel’s vision which he shares with his Team is that ‘Medprax continues to pay a relevant role in providing essential, high quality and innovative data solutions to the healthcare industry.
Yildiz Borrageiro
In addition to overseeing the daily operations of Medprax with precision and expertise, Yildiz plays a pivotal role in bridging the gap between operations and development. She also spearheads the management of the Ethical Product and Tariff databases, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in data and pricing structures. Furthermore, Yildiz is responsible for managing relationships with the Medprax Corporate clients, serving as a trusted liaison to address their needs effectively. Her ability to navigate both sides of the organization ensures the seamless collaboration and alignment of goals within the Medprax team, driving innovation and growth.
Debbie Jones
Debbie administers and manages the Medprax Debtors and Accounts function. With her proactive approach and sharp attention to detail, Debbie keeps one step ahead, ensuring seamless financial processes and the provision of exceptional services to clients. Debbie's dedication and expertise make her an integral part of a Team who consistently strive to deliver outstanding results and services.
Madeleine Korsten
Madeleine plays a pivotal role within the Medprax Medicine database Team as the expert behind Product classifications and management. With her extensive background as an in-house pharmacist, Madeleine brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to ensure that the Medprax products are accurately classified and managed with precision. Her dedication to maintaining the integrity of the Medprax Medicine database reflects her commitment to excellence. Madeleine's meticulous attention to detail and deep understanding of pharmaceuticals make her an invaluable asset ensuring that Medprax delivers the highest standards of quality and compliance.
Candice Barker
Candice manages and maintains the Medical Schemes Master database, ensuring Medprax clients have access to vital and accurate data. Furthermore, Candice is dedicated to providing exceptional customer support and building strong client relationships. As the cornerstone of the Medprax support team, Candice excels in understanding and addressing the training and support needs of clients by patiently guiding them through the Medprax processes.
