Bonitas Administrator Change to Momentum Health Solutions

As previously communicated, effective 1 June 2026, Momentum Health Solutions has officially taken over the administration of Bonitas Medical Fund from Medscheme.

Medprax has been liaising with all relevant parties throughout this transition to ensure that the necessary changes have been implemented for a smooth migration and minimal disruption to claims processing.

Due to the timing of the administrator change, there was an unusual transition period between 22 May 2026 and 1 June 2026 during which claims processing was effectively in a dry period. This is not the normal approach taken during administrator changes and unfortunately created a temporary gap between the outgoing and incoming administrators.

Any Bonitas claims submitted to Medscheme after 22 May 2026 will not be lost. These claims have been bundled into batches and will be forwarded to Momentum for processing from 1 June 2026.

To accommodate the change, Medprax has:

  • Discontinued the Medscheme-linked Bonitas schemes and options.
  • Added the new Momentum-linked Bonitas schemes and options.
  • Updated all routing destination codes on the Medprax Scheme File as supplied by the various switching partners.
  • Updated the relevant API structures and scheme files to support the transition.

We have also received confirmation from Momentum that the existing Bonitas tariff rates will remain unchanged until the next tariff season in 2027. No tariff rate changes are therefore required at this stage.

In addition, Bonitas has appointed Private Health Administrators (PHA) as its managed care provider and has introduced a new Provider Zone platform for healthcare providers. Providers are encouraged to register on the new Provider Zone, which will serve as the central platform for:

  • Authorisations
  • Managed care administration
  • Provider communications and updates
  • Other provider-related administrative functions

Healthcare providers should ensure that they register on the new platform and familiarise themselves with the updated processes.

We recommend that all clients update their systems with the latest Medprax Scheme Files and tariff data to ensure the successful submission and processing of Bonitas claims going forward.
