2010 Medical Aid Changes

The following changes are effective from 01 January 2010 and will be available on the Medprax

Discontinued / Merged Schemes

  • Telemed and Bestmed merge to form Bestmed Medical Scheme. Three new options have been introduced: Platinum, Gold, Gold Select for Onecare and Medicross.

  • Stocksmed: This scheme will be discontinued from 1Jan 2010

  • Liberty Health Medical Scheme and Medicover Medical Scheme amalgamate to form Liberty Medical Scheme

  • Purehealth Medical Scheme: This scheme has gone into voluntary dissolution and their members have joined alternative schemes.

  • Spectramed Medical Scheme: Administration of this scheme moves to Vmed

  • Medcor: All members have joined the Gems Medical Scheme

Changes to current options and new options introduced

  • Cape Medical Plan: The Gold option is discontinued and is replaced by the Select option, which offers comprehensive hospital cover and day to day benefits

  • Bonitas: Introduces the BonEssential option, which is a hospital plan that has dentistry benefits

  • Gems: Introduces the Gems Network options which will replace the Primecure Network options.

  • Medihelp Necesse option: Healthcare services are now to be rendered by the Primecure network of providers.

  • IBM: Essential Comprehensive option changes to Delta Comprehensive.

  • University of KZN: Option changes to UKZN Delta

  • Edcon: The limited option is to be discontinued and a Keycare option is introduced.

  • Medshield Medical Scheme: HospiElite option is to be discontinued.

  • Compcare Wellness Medical Scheme: The Accolade option is to be discontinued

  • Ingwe Health Plan: Classic option is to be discontinued.

  • Good Hope Medical Aid: Super 100 option to be discontinued.

  • Keyhealth Medical Plan: Two new options introduced namely Bronze Plus and Bronze Plus Network. The Keycap option is to be discontinued.

  • Topmed: Topmed 100% and Topmed Limited 100% options to be discontinued.

  • Oxygen Medical Scheme: Progressive Onecare option to be discontinued.

  • Discovery: Introduces the Delta Comprehensive Classic option.

  • Spectramed: Introduces the Spectra Elite Hospital Option.

  • Camaf: The Network Choice option is now administered by Eternity.

  • Thebemed: The Administrator will now process directly all services rendered for the Universal option.

  • Nimas: The Primary option will be discontinued, members to select any other NIMAS option available

  • Topmed: The Network option - Healthcare services are now to be rendered by Carecross network of providers

  • Bestmed: Blueprint option - Healthcare services are now to be rendered solely by Primecure

Please note these changes will be included in our Medical aid file and will therefore be automatically updated on your system if you receive this file. Please run your Practice Management Software and import the latest Medprax file for the new Medical Aid changes.
