Dispensing Fee for Doctors
Effective June 2009


In June 2009 we sent out a Memo to advise the new Dispensing legislation for General Practitioners, 
In spite of this we continue to get numerous queries in this regard.

To reiterate the dispensing legislation for General Practitioners is as follows:

  • The Dispensing Fee must be calculated Exclusive of VAT.

  • Where the SEP of a scheduled medicine is <R65 the dispensing fee must not exceed 30% of the SEP.

  • Where the SEP of a scheduled medicine is greater or equal to R65, the dispensing fee shall not exceed R20.

Please ensure that the markup on your PMS has been changed to accommodate the above legislation.
